Simply put, the 485 visa is a subclass labeled 485, included in the Australian Government’s valid visas. If you have finished your studies in Australia and wish to extend the visa validation for work and further study temporarily, this visa is right for you. Its validity period will vary among each category of applicants:

  • For people who have achieved a bachelor’s in a specific profession that Australia demands: Up to 18 months.
  • For students graduating from an institution in Australia: From 24 to 48 months.
  • For students graduating from an Australian regional institution: From 12 to 48 months.
  • For people whose visa validation was affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic: From 18 to 72 months.

The exact validity of the visa will be announced by the Australian government after assessing your documents. Each type of 485 visa requires different qualifications and offers separate benefits.

What Is The Required PTE Score For 485 Visas?

As of 23 March 2024, the 485 visa PTE requirement is 58 overall. However, you must gain at least 42 for each separate component in the exam. 

Apart from this test, you must satisfy some other requirements as follows:

  1. You must be younger than 50 years old.
  2. When you submit the application for the 485 visas, you must be staying in Australia.
  3. Your current visa is valid.
  4. Within the period of 6 months, you must have stayed and studied in Australia under a valid Student visa.
  5. Your first Student Visa was at least activated from 5 November 2011 until the present. 
  6. You must show that your health insurance is appropriate for the application.
  7. Before applying for the 485 visa, make sure that you have opted for an AFP check.
  8. Your English level must meet the visa requirements.
  9. You must accomplish a CRICOS-registered course degree.
